The Fairfield School District is a community public school district that serves students in prekindergarten through sixth grade from Fairfield Township, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States.
As of the 2008-09 school year, the district's two schools had an enrollment of 743 students and 53.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.0.[1]
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[3]
Students in public school for grades 7 - 12 attend the West Essex Regional School District, a regional school district serving students from four municipalities in western Essex County, New Jersey. Communities served by the district's schools are Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell and Roseland.[4] Schools in the district (with 2008-09 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics[5]) are West Essex Junior High School (grades 7-8; 569 students) and West Essex High School (grades 9-12; 1,014 students).
